Napier

Update 4 + 5 Napier

The last 100 Km's towards Napier went smoothly. It always amazes me that distances mean nothing in NZ as the road conditions can be so different. It can take you an hour to drive 100 Km's but it can just as easilly taken an hour to drive 10 Km's on some roads!

In Napier we had our most luxurious little motel unit yet! Flatscreen TV, DVD player, huge bedrooms, huge bathroom and a playground for the kids next door. Ofcourse there was the now compulsory jumping pillow as well and much fun was had by all! You should see Jeroen tear up and down it to believe it!

Our first day in Napier we did not see too much as we jmainly rested from the previous trips and entertained ourselves on the campsite. We did manage to go to the aquarium and the boys loved it. Jasper loved the fish and was running around from one tank to another! Jeroen saw a real crocodile and that was very exciting too.

On the second day we did a little walk throug Napier. During that walk I found something I'd love to have for my birthday: An art deco building! Volunteers???? Anyway I loved Napier. I really like the art deco style and the bold symetrical shapes of the buildings. The colors and decorations are the icing on the cake. After our little walk we sat down for some bagels. Big mistake. Jeroen threw a major tantrum and what was supposed to be a relaxing lunch with the family became an exercise in frustration. I think all the traveling has gotten to him but boy was he a royal pain in the old bum!

the plan for the next day is to travel to wellington where we will take the ferry to the south Island.
